If you have been thinking of a career change and like the idea of being an approved mental health professional, you are going to need to learn how you can go about becoming one before you start applying for approved mental health professional jobs.
This is not a straightforward career that you can just hop into as you will first need to have worked as a social worker, mental health nurse, occupational therapist or a clinical psychologist for at least two years.
Even if you have that, you will then need to be accepted for training after consideration from the Health and Care Professions Council.
Once Accepted
If you are accepted for training, you will be able to take the course at a variety of universities across the UK and it will usually take between six months to a year to complete. These courses are available either as part time or full time and as part of them, you will be placed in a practice placement alongside another AMPH for a set period of time.
Course Completed – Then What?
Even now you will not be able to just go and find AMPH jobs in London and get to work. You will first have to be approved by the local authority that you wish to work in before you can act as an AMPH. The good news is that once you have been approved, you will be given your warrant and you are now free to work within the jurisdiction of that local authority.
So as you can see, the path to becoming a fully fledged Approved Mental Health Professional is not as straightforward as you might have thought. Despite this, once you manage to get over the hurdles, this is a great career that can be extremely rewarding and not just in monetary terms.
There are plenty of people working in the profession that find the job extremely rewarding. Even as you are reading this article you are already looking for a job that has meaning, which is essentially a job you can home and feel like you made a difference.
Work With People That Want To Help Others
Dealing with patients and helping them is just one bonus being an AMPH offers. You also get to meet other like-minded people that are there to help the same as you are. This is a far cry from the rat race in which people are competing with each other to earn more money and get one over on their colleagues in order to progress. Maybe not every job is like this, but certainly, it does happen.
Instead of the office politics, you may get working for a finance or accountancy business, almost everyone working as an AMPH works as a team with a common goal. That is to help mentally ill patients improve their way of life or at the very least help them have the best possible life they can have considering their condition.
Despite the fact, we have pointed out that it is not easy going through all the red tape in order to become an AMPH, if at the end of the day you want to work with others that want to help mentally ill patients and you also feel you can do the same, then don’t let the barriers to entering this career stop you.
